The Church of the Holy Spirit is an Episcopal church in the American branch of the world-wide Anglican Communion, in the Diocese of New Jersey. Our worship brings together the best of both the Reformed and Catholic traditions, celebrating Word and Sacrament. Our liturgy is centered in the Holy Eucharist, using an expansive variety of prayers, text and music. We encourage all baptized persons to join us in receiving communion.
The Church of the Holy Spirit (CHS) is an open and welcoming group of parishioners from many Christian traditions who have found here a community of faith that supports their spiritual growth. We are inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Savior and sustained by the Holy Spirit. We seek to follow Christ's two all-encompassing commandments: to love God and love and care for our neighbors. It is this love that defines who we are. It affects everything we do. It is invisible, yet it is everywhere.
CHS offers every parishioner the opportunity to grow and learn and serve others in the spirit of our Jesus Christ. There is a place for everyone, whether in worship, singing in the choir, participating in Bible study, preparing the church for Sunday services, teaching Sunday School or getting involved in our outreach communities.
Our “broad church” congregation is dedicated to the liturgy of the Episcopal Church and guided by the Book of Common Prayer. People who join CHS feel called to our community and choose to become part of it. Our programs often integrate the sacred with the secular, reflect the interests of the congregation, and respond to needs we see around us.
Leadership comes from all levels of our congregation and most ministries are led by lay leaders with the support of the rector and deacons. We offer flexibility and space to experiment with new approaches
Each member of our community is encouraged and exhorted to seek discernment and enactment of their God-given gifts for ministry.
