![]() Dear friends, I hope you're enjoying "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell," as much as I am. What a wonderful story! I recently learned that the author based the story on a media story about a boy born with ocular albinism who was refused entrance into a private school in Australia.. He also discusses that his youngest brother was born with Down Syndrome, in an age where his parents were counseled to place the baby in an institution. His mother would hear nothing of it and, much like Sam Hill's mother in the book, proceeded to advocate for her young child, pushing him to succeed as much as possible. I'm sure Father Phil will have some enlightening thoughts on the discrimination Sam Hell faced from the nun and head principal at the Catholic school he eventually attended!!!! Our next meeting will be held on Sunday, February 12, following the 10am service. Bagels, cream cheese, and cookies will be served from 11:30 - 1:30!!!! Warm regards, Suzanne |
