June 21 - Supply Priest or Interim?

6/21/2024

What’s the Difference between a Supply Priest and In Interim Rector?

  • A SUPPLY PRIEST is a priest not assigned to a particular parish who is available to substitute temporarily usually for Sunday services for a parish priest who is on vacation, ill or otherwise unavailable.  Over the years, we have had a number supply priests at Holy Spirit, including our own John Rollins.
  • An INTERIM RECTOR is retained by a parish during the period between the departure of its Rector and the calling of a new Rector.   The purpose of having an Interim Rector is to sustain the direction and ministry of a congregation, as defined by the Vestry, in preparation for the coming of the next Rector
  • CHS is seeking applicants for the Interim Rector position, which has been posted since late March.  We are first seeking a candidate with the right fit for our parish.  The Interim role may be part-time or full-time depending on the candidate’s availability.  We pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us to the best possible outcome for CHS and your Vestry is working everyday to identify and interview candidates.

Who is covering services this summer?

While we wait for our Interim Rector, the Vestry has secured a full roster of Supply Priests this summer.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from dear friends of our parish, as well as new voices.
This is a great opportunity to expend your spiritual growth.

FAQs for Fr. Phil’s last weeks - June 14th, 2024

6/14/2024

When is Fr. Phil’s final sermon and Eucharist as Rector of Church of the Holy Spirit?
  • Sunday, June 23rd is Fr. Philip’s final sermon and sharing of Eucharist.
  • Join us at regular 8am or 10am services to share in this important moment in our church’s history.
Who will offer the Sermon at Fr. Philip’s Retirement Evensong?
  • We are thrilled to have a special guest preacher, Fr. Philip’s dear friend and mentor, the Rev. Canon Bruce Jenneker, who is travelling from Cape Town, South Africa to be with us for this occasion. Rev. Jenneker preached at Fr. Phil’s installation at CHS in 1987, and he will preach at his final service. We are delighted to welcome him.
Who will be preaching on June 30th and after Fr. Phil retires?
  • We are blessed to have our own Fr. John Rollins officiating at 8am and 10am services on June 30th. We are inviting Supply Priests for future Sundays and will keep the parish updated as we learn more.
When are we getting an Interim?
  • The Vestry and Fr. Philip are seeking the right candidate with the right fit to lead our congregation through a time of transition. It is taking more time than we anticipated, but we believe we will be guided by the Holy Spirit to the right person soon.
