"...for his distinguished and courageous literary work and his defense of African languages, based on the notion of language as culture and collective memory" The jury also declared, "Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o is one of the most prolific and renowned African writers.""In all the genres he cultivates – novels, essays, memoirs, theatre – he combines the most profound African traditions with a sensitive yet merciless description of the social and political situation of his native Kenya."

Ngugi's Hut is a special place at the Kiwimbi Library, where children gather for story-telling, reading and lessons.
Ngugi visited Kiwimbi in 2016, drawn to our Library and Community Center because of his own idea of "a library in every village," a concept very much in alignment with the mission of Kiwimbi.
