The Summer of 2012 has been an exciting time for the Church of the Holy Spirit!

The Lilly Endowment has funded a renewal program for both priest and parish this summer. The pages linked in the left column give dates, times, places of the events that were planned. This page will let you glimpse the journey of renewal as it has unfolded at Church of the Holy Spirit.

The Occasions:

Community DayOctober 6,The Renewal of Beauty - The Sacred Path of Creativity for Church of the Holy Spirit - Community Day

The grand finale for the Renewal of Beauty program was October 6. The day started with a catered breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Fran McKendee warmed everyone up with music and inspiration. The attendees were split into groups by ages--adults, teens, and children--where each group experienced stations of beauty and faith. Fran led one station based on music and dance; Father Ed Murphy led a second station based on art of the world; the Reverend Barbara Cawthorne Crafton led a third based on the written word; and Wendy Hallstrom led the fourth with a hands-on beauty activity.

A catered lunch was provided and followed by a wrap-up session of conversation and worship.

A Concert by Fran McKendree was the special evening event.
Fran delighted everyone with intergenerational concert featuring our very own Blues Band. This event was open to the community. Check out Fran's music at www.franmckendree.com

Dave Dabour has provided a link to the pictures he took of the concert in the evening.

Sept 9September 9, "Meet the Artist"

Dr. McColloughThe fourth event was the September 9 Artist Reception Breakfast between services. We had the opportunity to meet the Reverend Dr. Charles McCollough and his wife Carol.

ParablesDuring the summer and fall, parishioners have seen and experienced the Gospel Parables as interpreted by the Reverend Dr. Charles McCollough in his sculptures, and listened to inspiring sermons by our clergy each week about the par-ables of Jesus. Dr. McCollough talked about his sculptures and what inspires him during the breakfast. Many thanks to Carol McCollough for the picutures.

Barge TripAugust 9, "In the Same Boat" had to be moved indoors because of the severe storm warnings for the area. Fortunately, the CHS "boat" worked just fine! Barbara Crafton and many of the people who had signed up were able to get to the church and enjoy the evening's planned activities...just in a slightly different place.

Sandy Burton recorded the whole event. Click here to go to the slide show.

MetJuly 7, despite promises of excessive heat, saw a bus load of CHS members and friends head off to NYC to the Metropolitain Museum of Art with Fr. Ed Murphy as the leader. Fr. Ed has been taking groups to the Met for many years (ask him how many if you dare!) and led the group through the displays of early people's art with special stories about the pieces he singled out and more information than many of us could absorb.

Dave Dabour recorded the whole trip. Click here to go to the slide show.

Many thanks to Cecilie Bulcha and June Filipski for planning and coordination.

All ArtistsOn June 9, Ruth Councell came for the presentation of "We Are All Artists". Women Making It Happen helped coordinate the dinner that preceeded the program. What a wonderful evening.
